Majuro, Marshall Islands

The Supreme Court of the Marshall Islands with the concurrence of the High Court admits legal practitioners as either Attorneys or Trial Assistants.

Trial Assistants are Marshallese citizens who have been admitted to practice law on a limited basis. There is no legal education requirement for a trial assistant.

Potential Attorneys may qualify to take the bar exam by satisfying Rule 2 of the Rules of Admission by graduating from a three-year law curriculum at an approved law school.

Some of the admitted Attorneys have done so by attending various South Pacific law schools, such as in Fiji, Vanuatu, or Papua New Guinea, and earning a bachelor’s degree in law (L.L.B.).  Other admitted Attorneys have earned the graduate degree of Juris Doctor at law schools in the United States.

Most of the active practitioners live and reside in Majuro. A small number of admitted Attorneys live outside of the Marshall Islands and make occasional visits to the Marshall Islands.
